Alexa Chung’s fashion comeback

She might have bagged a British Vogue cover in June this year, but on the whole, things have been pretty quiet where fashion is concerned for 27-year-old TV presenter/ model Alexa Chung.
While the tabloids were quick to report on her break-up from Arctic Monkeys frontman, Alex Turner, earlier this month (the shaggy-haired pair were together for four years), it seems the leggy Chanel ambassador from Hampshire has been quick to re-evaluate where she's at.
And so, cue not a new haircut, but a new home in New York City. Chung has reportedly swapped the Brooklyn neighbourhood of Williamsburg for Manhattan's Lower East Side, snapping up a one-bedroom flat for $600,000.
'Free Chanel clobber doesn't equal a mortgage', I hear you say, so here's where the new work assignments come in.
First up is a new reality TV show , with the working title 24-Hour Catwalk - which pits aspiring designers against each other and will be aired in the US. While critics have been quick to point out that the premise for series is all too similar to the hugely popular Project Runway , could this be Chung's big moment to launch herself on the scale of Heidi Klum, PR 's successful host?
If the presenting doesn't work out (her first foray on to US screens with the show It's on With Alexa Chung , was cancelled after two seasons) then there's her talent for design. September sees the launch of her second collection for US retailer Madewell, with a range of looks inspired by "girls in bands who live in their looks". Chung's debut collaboration with the brand was so eagerly anticipated that even the store's staff were rumoured to to be banned from using their employee discount on her eponymous range.
And then there's a swift return to modelling; womenswear label Vero Moda have just signed Chung as its new face. Popular on Asos.com and in Oliver Bonas stores for its purse-friendly price points, a spokesperson for the Danish-based brand said Alexa was the "perfect choice" for its new campaign. Launching in November, the images have already been shot in New York.
"We feel we couldn't have picked a more influential face within the industry," is just one of the compliments bestowed upon Miss Chung by her new employer.
And what with New York Fashion week just around the corner, equalling many a fresh front-row opportunity, get ready to see a lot more of the very British style icon in stylish action.

Hailey Clauson's T-shirt war

A T-shirt brand and the photographer at the centre of a $28 million legal battle lodged by a 16-year-old model have spoken out to give their sides of the story.
Mitra Khayyam, founder of T-shirt label Blood is the New Black , had produced and sold - though both his own website and via fashion giant Urban Outfitters - a top emblazoned with a photo of model Hailey Clauson provocatively posing aboard a motorbike. Clauson's family were reportedly shocked to see their daughter, in a pose they described as "blantantly salacious" due to her "her crotch area the focal point of the image", upon the T-shirts.
Los Angeles-based photographer Jason Lee Parry, who took the images of Clauson when she was aged 15, claimed the images were stolen from him ( the image is still on his website ). Khayyam meanwhile, claims that Parry had emailed him the pictures of Clauson for use on his tops after several meetings at the designer's office.
"Jason was paid for several of his images, including the image in question of the model," said Khayyam.
Parry appeared on American news channel ABC to defend the images, saying that Clauson "posed herself; she's a professional model". Asked if he found the image in any way salacious, he said: "I didn't see it that way, and I think if people do, it's bad on them. I feel it's a really good shot."
Parry added that if the model has been showing any "private parts", then he could "completely understand" the root of the scandal. He confirmed that her parents were present while the shoot took place.
In another image which found its way on to a selection of T-shirts, Clauson is shown aboard a skateboard in denim cut-offs, swinging a six-pack of beer.
The Californian teenager, who was one of the faces of Gucci's spring/summer 2011 campaign and is currently starring in ads for Topshop and Zara, is not only suing Parry and Khayyam for using the image, but Urban Outfitters and two smaller retailers who stocked the T-shirt, report the New York Post .
Blood is the New Black believe they sold 500 of the T-shirts before pulling them from stores and now hold the remainder in their warehouse.

Geri Halliwell takes lingerie trend too far

Geri Halliwell took the underwear as outerwear trend just a little to far when wore a low-cut top that showed her bra in London yesterday. At first glance Geri, who was taking a stroll with her daughter Bluebelle in Hampstead, looked like she'd aced laid back late summer style. With her Ray Ban aviators, skater skirt, scoop-neck T-shirt and sun kissed mane it was a case of so far, so good. And then she turned around. Now, we're not prudes but this particular brand of bra flashing is just not acceptable. Ever. It's not even a nice bra for goodness sake. To add insult to injury, Geri teamed the 'daring' lingerie with an equally daring (and ill-advised) manicure: fingers decorated with alternate nail polish of blue and orange. Back to the bottom of the style class please Ms Halliwell!

We're sad to report that Geri is not the only Spice lady to commit this fashion crime. Mel B has also been snapped flashing her bra in recent months.

If only Geri and Mel B would take some style advice for their former band mate Victoria Beckham. Mrs B would never dream of giving us a glimpse at her lingerie - although if the photos in the gallery below are anything to go by, she's committed some pretty heinous fashion crimes of her own in the past...

Kate Winslet saves Richard Branson's mum from fire

Richard Branson has thanked Kate Winslet for sensationally saving his mother from a fire after a blaze ripped through the Virgin mogul's luxury pad in the Caribbean.
Soon after the incident Branson posted on his blog, writing: "Many thanks to Kate Winslet for helping to carry my 90-year[-old] mum out of the main house to safety."

He then joked: "She was wondering when a director was going to shout 'Cut!'"

The Oscar-winner was among twenty other guests who fled the fire at the Great House on Necker Island, including Branson's 90-year-old mother, Eve, and his 29-year-old daughter, Holly.
Branson, who was staying with his wife and son in another property 100 yards away said: "Around 20 people were in the house and they all managed to get out and they are all fine."
The 60-year-old, who bought the island in the early 1980s, also said: "We had a bad tropical storm with winds up to 90mph. A big lightning storm came around 4am and hit the house. My son Sam rushed to the house and helped get everyone out. The main house is destroyed and the fire is not yet completely out. My office was based in the house and I have lost thousands of photographs, which is very sad."
He added: "It's very much the Dunkirk spirit here. We want to rebuild the house as soon as we can. We have a wonderful staff here and we want them to stay in work. We'll all stay here for the time being. There's a lot of damage and we won't be able to stick it back together again right away. It was a beautiful house."
Winslet, 35, was staying on the island with her daughter Mia, 10, from her first marriage to Jim Threapleton and her son, Joe, 7, by second husband Sam Mendes, whom she is in the process of divorcing.

Is Marc Jacobs heading to Dior?

So the rumour mill went into overdrive yesterday when WWD named Marc Jacobs as the new front runner to scoop the prime position at Dior – and that, friends, leaves a lot of unanswered questions.
Apparently the American designer is in “serious talks” with LVMH to step into John Galliano’s shoes at the luxury label and, given that his contract at Louis Vuitton is nearly up, the timing could be perfect.
If Bernard Arnault, LVMH’s chairman, does decide not to renew Jacobs’ contract at Vuitton in favour of filling the growing hole at Dior, Marc’s right hand man and business partner, Robert Duffy, would go with him, reports the Cut, and Phoebe Philo would be the likely choice to take the helm at Vuitton.
Of course, this could be a stumbling block by LVMH to buy time and save finger nails, but though there is pressure on the luxury conglomerate to name a superstar successor at Dior – and quickly (especially after Bill Gaytten’s ill-received couture collection this summer) – Jacobs’ has never ruled out the possibility of moving to Dior.
When asked if he was going for the job at Dior back at his last Louis Vuitton show, he said, “I haven’t been asked,” implying, perhaps, that if he were, he might just be obliged.
Frankly, we’re none the wiser, and Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci is still a strong candidate, so we’ll have to watch this space a little longer.

Nick Cannon tries to break hugging world record

Mariah Carey's husband Nick Cannon has attempted to break a world record.

The America's Got Talent host was trying to break The Guinness World record for the most hugs given in one hour.

The star, who attempted the record-breaking stunt at New York's Citi Field, tweeted: "hey NYC! I'm here trying to break the hugging record. Come show love!"

It is unknown yet whether or not the presenter broke the current record of 1,749 hugs in an hour but for every hug he gave, a toy was donated to a child at the Mets Care Room in the New York Hospital of Queens.

Hot or not: Zoe Saldana's Balmain dress

We love seeing Zoe Saldana on the red carpet here in the MyDaily office (the Givenchy Couture gown she wore to the 2010 Oscars was enough to make us lifelong fans).

However, while there's no denying that the actress looked radiant at last night's screening for her latest film, Colombiana, her Balmain ensemble isn't screaming sartorial winner to us.

The gold embroidered mini dress is more than dazzling, but it's the addition of the white train (not present on the catwalk version) that ruins it for us.

How do you rate Zoe's daring dress choice? Let us know by voting below.
